Caris Reid explores and creates symbolic spaces which mediate between the mystical and mundane. Her graphic language rendered in bold, saturated hues through thin layers of acrylic simplified shapes and forms create an atmosphere both familiar and uncanny. 

Hunter’s Moon, inspired by the October full moon commonly associated with preparation for winter, engages with numerous motifs that often appear in Reid’s work; cats, the full moon, and snake. The white moon illuminates the sky into a cyan wash that echoes harmoniously throughout the painting—the lines shaping the cat or the cornflower blue of the snake. The green eyes contrast from the cat’s stark form, symbolizing hunter-life instincts used to overcome challenges. Each print is hand-embellished with rhythmic patterns in the ground and other playful details to complement the variety of colorways, making each piece a unique work.
