New top-of-the-line chest and arm protector from Vaughn is the Ventus SLR3. As a widespread favourite for chest protectors in the NHL, Vaughn used their knowledge and expertise in the industry to engineer a chest pad fit to keep pace with butterfly and hybrid playstyles. This chesty comes equipped with a dual back strap system, HD and carbon-reinforced main arm floaters, a Pure Composite sternum pad, and adjustable length arms.
External Material
The SLR3 Pro Carbon chest pad exterior is made of nylon mesh for excellent durability and flexibility. The strong nylon weave holds the pads together while adding good ventilation all around.
Internal Foams
Compared to the SLR2, the SLR3 chest protector is now constructed with higher density foam and carbon reinforcement. These upgrades ensure you are protected and can cover more of the net. Pure Composite foam has been introduced into the SLR3 from the V9. Pure Composite is a foam that works great at keeping you safe from injury and controlling rebounds. It has been added to the sternum to keep that sensitive area well-protected and help you better control where the puck goes.
Shoulder Caps
The shoulder caps are molded for better fit and are outfitted with a cushion padding to deaden puck momentum on impact. The shoulder pads on the SLR3 have been readjusted in size and positioning to enhance performance, particularly for butterfly-style goalies. The shoulders have been made larger to cover more surface area, and the squared shoulder floaters have been raised for more vertical coverage. Although the pads have been made to stand taller and wider, these characteristics do not hinder mobility.
A second optional velcro layer was added under the shoulder floaters; many goalies like to wear this layer during practice and take it off during games for some extra range of motion.
Adjustable Arms
The arms on the SLR3 pads are tapered at the forearm with molded plastic caps for a more contoured fit. The side floaters are also molded. The base of the arm is made of nylon mesh for good flex and ventilation. Along the arms and at the wrists are adjustable straps to modify width as needed; with the Pro Carbon version, you can also adjust the length of the arms.
Elbow Caps
The SLR3 is equipped with four-point adjustable elbow pads for a more formed fit and better range of motion.
Back Straps
The dual back strap is new to the SLR series and makes it easier for you to modify the size of the pads and get them fitted closer. The back is also furnished with a back spine pad and HD foam insert. This pad keeps your spine protected from unexpected impacts directed at your back and spine.
